Baio Enterprises
offers services for adults who need to work on areas of speech and
language to improve daily communications at home and in the workplace. Foreign Accent Reduction Bridging the Gap
This therapist-lead discussion group is provided to adults living with another adult who is, or is suspected to be, on the Autism Spectrum (husband/wife, adult child living with parents, etc. The goal is to explore mutually agreeable ways to bridge the gap in communication and understanding between a person with an Autism Spectrum Disorder and one who does not share this disorder. We will cover topics generated by the family or couple to address the immediate problems they are experiencing. Some of the areas we know families and couples have difficulty with are those of communicating effectively, identifying each others needs, responding to each others needs, and understanding the differences between each person and why the differences occur.
Sue Golubock, M.Ed., OTR/L and Marti Baio, M.A., CCC -SLP will facilitate this discussion between spouses and family members. Sue, who was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome, represents those on the Autism Spectrum and Marti represents those are not. Sue's specialty is dealing with sensory processing and neurological differences between autistic and non-autistic people. Marti's specialty is effective social communication—verbal and non-verbal—in autistic and non-autistic people. We both firmly believe that improved communication and a mutually respectful relationship can be achieved despite the differences in perceptions, actions and needs of those on the autism spectrum and those who are not.
Both private consultations as well as group sessions are provided on an appointment basis. Please call the office at 480-963-3634 to get further information and to schedule an appointment.
