DEVELOP A HOME PROGRAM THAT WORKS!
Learn to work effectively with your child, adolescent or adult on the spectrum…from a spectrum perspective and using their strengths. Build a sensory diet into the daily routines of the individual on the spectrum that will help them to more effectively meet performance demands and self-regulate attention and emotional levels. Augment therapy goals via a core exercise video program specifically designed for autistic individuals that can be enjoyed by the whole family. Address auditory processing difficulties through a Therapeutic Listening Program that is easily carried out at home, during normal activities. Work with the therapist to problem-solve and find solutions to situations and tasks that are problematic for the individual or family in the environment in which the problem occurs. Establish a monitoring system that the individual on the spectrum can use to measure their own success with autistic-friendly, strength-based, strategies.
ADVOCATE EFFECTIVELY IN THE SCHOOL OR WORK ENVIRONMENT!
Work with the therapist to determine which assistive devices and methods would best tap into your child's, adolescent's or adult's processing strengths and how to advocate to get them accepted and used in the environments in which they are needed. Learn how to teach your child, adolescent or adult how to advocate effectively for themselves at home, at school and in the world of work. Work with the therapist to identify effective strategies/methods that would enable the individual on the spectrum to compensate for/get around tasks that tap into their limitations, resulting in fatigue, becoming overwhelmed, or eventual meltdowns.
DEAL WITH PROBLEM BEHAVIORS THAT INTERFERE WITH PROGRESS!
Learn, by working directly with the therapist, how to decrease fears, anxiety, and anger that affect progress in therapy, school, or work settings. Learn how to establish effective communication and a positive relationship that will go a long way in motivating the child, adolescent or adult to want to learn and interact with others.
